Marnie was actually due on March 14-15. But with a March 21st nurses strike looming, her doctor got her in the queue a couple days early to be induced. We dropped Zoe off with our neighbors at 7:30 and went to the hospital at 8:30 PM on Wed March 19th (My brother Seth's Birthday and my Aunt Merle's Anniversary).
Once there, they got us in the room and gave Marnie the first of two drugs to help induce labor, at around 10:00pm. We then tried to get some sleep, but the rubber mattress they had for me wasn't conducive to getting any sleep, and the fact that nurses would come in and turn the lights on every 30 minutes didn't help. I think Marnie got some sleep, but I was awake most of the night (like it matters how tired I am).
Around 7:00 in the morning on the 20th (Happy Birthday Uncle Alan!), Marnie's contractions were about 2 minutes apart and she was a couple centimeters dilated. So they gave her the epidural and fired up the stronger drug to really get the contractions going.
Since she had the epidural, Marnie wasn't uncomfortable (relatively speaking). She progressed quickly. They called the doctor, told her to be here at 12:30 and had her start pushing around 12 noon. Things progressed so quickly that we actually had to wait for the doctor to run up the stairs and get in position for the ONE AND ONLY contraction she was present for! Marnie delivered Josette on the third push.
She was 8lbs 2oz, 20 inches long, and got a 7/9 on the apgar test (for those of you in the know). We think she has blue eyes, but they are VERY dark blue, and might just be brown.
She spent the day sleeping, feeding and mildly crying. Mainly taking all the new things to be seen in a little post-natal room. Marnie is doing well, looks good and is generally enjoying a relatively easy delivery (compared to the last one).
I went home and had pizza and ice cream with Zoe. We'll head back to the hospital tomorrow morning and Zoe will get to meet her sister for the first time.
BTW, here is a shot of Zoe when she was born. It's a good thing they are 2 1/2 years apart...
